I recently had an amazing time exploring the beautiful city of Porto, and I’m excited to share my experiences and tips with you. So, if you’re planning a visit to this charming Portuguese city, here’s how you can make the most of your trip on land.
First off, there are various ways to get around Porto, and it’s good to know your options. You can take a leisurely stroll on foot, use taxis for quick point-to-point travel, hop on a tuk-tuk for a unique ride, or opt for the convenient hop-on and hop-off bus tours.
Let’s start with the tuk-tuk experience. I gave it a try, and while it’s fun and zippy, it felt a bit rushed. I even got a bundle that included a tuk-tuk tour and a 6-bridges cruise. Looking back, I’d recommend doing the 6-bridges cruise separately for a more relaxed and photo-friendly experience.
Now, if you’re like me and enjoy taking your time to soak in the sights and capture those Instagram-worthy photos, an audio tour might be your jam. I went for one, and it was fantastic! You can explore Porto’s historic sites at your own pace, which is super flexible. But here’s the catch – Porto is quite hilly, so be prepared for some uphill walks. If you’re up for a bit of exercise and can handle those inclines, the audio tour is a winner. Despite not finishing it, I still love this way of exploring a city.
Now, onto my personal favorite: the hop-on and hop-off bus. I got a ticket for the Red Line, and guess what? It also included access to the Blue Line buses. This is the ultimate way to get an overview of Porto. You can hop off whenever you like, explore at your own pace, and return to those must-visit spots for those “I was here” photos. It’s like having your own personal chauffeur, only it’s a bus.
Before I share my travel tip on the taxis in Porto, I’m about to give you links to several hop-on hop-off tours, especially the bus tours, that will contribute largely to making your Porto experience unforgettable!
Travel Tip(s)
Taxis are a tad pricey for zipping between sightseeing spots, but they come in handy for getting to and from restaurants, especially if they’re not within walking distance. Save them for dinner time when your feet need a break.
So there you have it – my tips for exploring Porto on “foot”! Whether you’re cruising the Douro River, climbing hills with an audio guide, or riding the hop-on and hop-off bus, Porto is a city filled with history, charm, and plenty of photo opportunities. Enjoy your adventure, and don’t forget to savor some delicious Portuguese cuisine along the way!
