Road Trip from Verona:

For a memorable road trip to Limone, we recommend renting a car. This gives you the freedom to make spontaneous stops and explore charming towns along the way. If you’d rather leave the driving to someone else, taking the bus is also a viable option, allowing you to sit back and enjoy the scenic journey.

Our trip starts in Verona (the nearest airport to our end destination, Limone sul Garda) and from here it is only a short drive.  It all depends on how many stops you make along the way, but there are a few options for getting to Limone by car:  via the A22/E45 ( approx. 1 hour and 22 minutes – 98.6 km), or you can take the SR249 route ( approx. 1 hour and 50 minutes – 96.6 km).   Taking the SR249 gives you the opportunity to explore the following pretty towns along the way:

1. Lazise

  • Travel Time from Verona by Car: About 30 minutes.
  • Other Travel Options: (Bus) Direct buses from Verona to Lazise (approximately 1 hour).
  • Recommended Time to Spend There: 2-3 hours.

Three Things to Do:

  • Visit the Scaliger Castle or do winetasting in a historic cellar.
  • Buy your Pistachio Gelato and stroll along the lakeside promenade.
  • Enjoy a meal or coffee at a local café.

Travel Tip:  The Church doors in the Italian towns, are mostly always open, so don’t miss the opportunity to see these magnificent buildings from inside.  (Remember to always show respect by covering up before entering if you’re coming from the beach.)

2. Bardolino

  • Walk through the pretty streets, and take photos at Porto di Bardolino (the harbor).
  • Relax at a waterfront café and maybe share a pizza (with a view…)

Travel Tip:  Bring your best and most comfortable walking shoes for this trip, as you just have to explore all the pretty streets in these beautiful towns.

3. Garda

Although Garda feels more like a city than a quaint little village, it has its own unique allure.

4. Torri Del Benaco

5. Malcesine

The combination of the lake, pretty Italian cafes along the water’s edge, and the mountains are just spectacular.  Although the town can get busy at times, it is definitely worth a stop and taking the time to wander around.

  • Recommended Time to Spend There: 3-4 hours.

 

Three Things to Do There:

  • Hide under a beautiful tree, from the summer heat, and listen to soft music at piazza Cavour while sipping on something cool.
  • Ride the cable car up to Mount Baldo or visit the medieval Scaliger Castle of Malcesine for some pretty spectacular views.
  • Enjoy the scenic promenade or go on a boat trip or a sunset cruise.

Travel Tip:  Riva del Garda is also a perfect morning trip if you’re staying in Limone, which will give you more time to explore.

Bus or Train?

While car and bus are the best options for traveling to these places, you can include a train ride.  E.g. You can take the train from Verona to Peschiera del Garda and from there you can then take the bus to the various town.
