When I think back to my stay at Hotel Čertovka in Prague, one thing stands out more than anything else: the location worked exceptionally well for the way I wanted to explore the city.
I’ve stayed in many different hotels over the years, and every property serves a different purpose. On this particular trip, I wanted a comfortable base that put historic Prague within easy reach.
Hotel Čertovka did exactly that for me.
Hotel Čertovka is a small four-star hotel in Prague’s historic Malá Strana, or Lesser Town, close to Charles Bridge.
Hotels change over time. Rooms are refurbished, services evolve, and management practices can change.
Therefore, this review concentrates on the part of my experience I remember particularly well: how convenient I found the hotel’s location for sightseeing.
I wanted to:
Did I get what I wanted? Absolutely. The front desk was super friendly and offered sightseeing information. Breakfast was basic and tasty. The spread was sufficient. Hotel Čertovka checked all seven of my want boxes.
Charles Bridge became a natural dividing point for my sightseeing.
I dedicated one day to exploring one side of the bridge and another day to exploring the other. Because Hotel Čertovka was so close to Charles Bridge, I found this an exceptionally convenient way to organize my time.
On the Malá Strana side, I could explore the historic streets and gradually make my way toward the Prague Castle area.
Then, on another day, I could cross Charles Bridge and continue exploring Prague’s Old Town.
It was such a simple approach, but it worked remarkably well.
Instead of looking at a map each morning and wondering how to tackle an enormous list of Prague attractions, I effectively divided the historic center into two manageable sightseeing days.
Prague is a city I loved exploring on foot.
That made Hotel Čertovka’s position particularly valuable to me. I could leave the hotel and quickly find myself among the historic streets and sights that I’d come to Prague to experience.
Of course, the ideal Prague neighborhood will depend on what you plan to see and how you prefer to get around. Someone planning a very different itinerary may prefer another part of the city.
For my itinerary, though, this location worked extremely well.
And years later, that convenience is still what I remember most clearly about my stay.
Prague makes a great base for day trips, like the Pilsner beer experience at its source in Plzeň. If you’re staying for more than a couple of days, it’s worth looking beyond the historic center and adding at least one day trip to your itinerary.
This was my simple approach to Prague, and it worked wonderfully well:
Day trips from Prague:
If you’re planning your first Prague visit and hope to explore much of the historic center on foot, Hotel Čertovka’s location is certainly worth considering.
It may also appeal to you if you’re planning a short city break and want to organize your sightseeing around the two sides of Charles Bridge, as I did.
However, hotel preferences are incredibly personal. Room style, facilities, views, breakfast, accessibility, price, and atmosphere may matter differently to each of us.
That’s why I always recommend looking at recent photographs, current facilities, room categories, and recent guest feedback before making your final decision.
Yes.
Hotel Čertovka made exploring Prague easy.
I could dedicate one day to one side of Charles Bridge and the next to the other, while staying close to the point connecting the two.
That’s a wonderfully practical memory to have of a hotel.
So, if I were planning another short Prague visit with plenty of walking and sightseeing on the agenda, Hotel Čertovka is a property I would happily consider again.
After all, sometimes one of the nicest things a hotel can give you isn’t something inside the hotel at all.
It’s a great starting point for discovering the destination outside its front door.
