We could not have chosen a better place to stay during our visit to this lakeside village. As you arrive in Limone sul Garda, the Aria Life Hotel appears on the left, perched slightly above the town. That gentle rise makes all the difference. It opens up wide views across the rooftops, the lake, and the mountains that surround the northern end of Lake Garda.
Free parking made arrival easy, and the welcome was warm right from the start. After a scenic drive from Milan, we reached the hotel in the late afternoon, just in time to check in and settle down for our first dinner in Italy.
The dining area felt exactly how you imagine Italy. Terracotta rooftops stretched across the view, and beyond them rose the rugged mountains at the north of Lake Garda. Some of the higher peaks still held a light dusting of snow.
A Limoncello Spritz (recipe below), a plate of perfect pasta, and a view like that — a memorable way to end our first day exploring Limone sul Garda.
As evening settled over the lake, a soft mist slowly rolled in from the water.
The town grew quieter and the mountains above Limone sul Garda caught the last light of the day. Their peaks glowed gently in shades of gold and pink — what many call Alpenglow.
“Instead of simply sitting still and enjoying the moment, I jumped up, rushed outside and tried to capture the perfect photograph.
Only later did I realize I had been so excited that I hadn’t even taken the time to focus properly. (yip, that’s me… LOL ) The photo wasn’t perfect — but the memory certainly was.”
Our room was comfortable and bright, and the real highlight was the balcony. From there we could look across Lake Garda and down toward the town. Limone’s colorful houses and narrow streets appeared tucked between the water and the mountains.
The beds were very comfortable, which made the stay even more enjoyable after long days of exploring.
We had a lovely corner unit with two rooms, and each room had its own balcony and its own shower bathroom. Having two balconies meant we could enjoy the views from different angles, with Lake Garda stretching out in front of us and the mountains rising behind the town.
It was the kind of view that makes you slow down. Sitting outside with the lake in front of you almost makes you feel like a local, even if only for a short stay.
After sunset, when everything became quiet, I sat alone on the balcony enjoying the sounds and the smell of the evening air. Soft noises drifted up from the town below — the distant voices of people returning from their day of exploring, a door closing somewhere, quiet footsteps along the street.
I tried to take everything in, hoping to fix the moment in my memory, wishing it was something I could bottle and carry home with me.
The night felt peaceful. Just the occasional voice floating through the warm air. And then, softly, the first drops of rain began to fall — gentle raindrops tapping quietly around me.
The perfect ending to a perfect day.
The next morning started with a very generous breakfast buffet. The selection was much bigger than we expected. Fresh breads, pastries, fruit, and classic Italian breakfast favorites filled the tables.
Nothing quite compares to Italian bread fresh from the bakery. A slow breakfast with lake views is a wonderful way to begin the day.
TRAVEL TIP: It’s a good idea to arrive early for breakfast. The room fills up quickly as everyone prepares to head out and explore Limone sul Garda for the day.
One of the things we appreciated most was the location. The hotel sits just far enough above town to feel peaceful, yet close enough that you can easily walk down to the waterfront.
Within minutes we reached the promenade along Lake Garda. From there we wandered into Limone’s winding alleys, exploring small staircases, hidden corners, and little shops tucked into the old stone streets.
Every turn revealed something charming — flowers on balconies, tiny cafés, and glimpses of the lake between the buildings.
Limone can become busy during the day as visitors arrive to explore the waterfront and old town. Returning to the Aria Life hotel felt like stepping back into calm.
The swimming pool overlooks Lake Garda, and the terrace is a lovely place to relax in the afternoon. Sitting on the balcony with that wide lake view felt like a private escape above the village.
One evening we drove a short distance to nearby Riva del Garda for dinner beside the water. The lakeside restaurants there have a wonderful atmosphere, especially once the lights begin to reflect on the lake.
After dinner we returned to the hotel for a quiet nightcap. The evening air was calm, the lake dark and still below us, and the mountains surrounding the town created a peaceful setting for the night.
After our nightcap one evening at the Aria Life Hotel, I asked the barman about the limoncello they used. It was so good that I wanted to know the exact bottle so I could buy the same one.
He looked at me for a moment, slightly puzzled, and replied in his best English:
“You can buy in store.”
At first I found the answer a little surprising. I was expecting the name of a special brand or secret bottle.
Later it made perfect sense.
In Limone sul Garda, limoncello is everywhere — and it’s all wonderfully good. The lemons grown around Lake Garda give the drink its fresh, bright flavour, so almost any bottle you find in town works beautifully in a Limoncello Spritz.
It turns out the answer was simple all along.

Before you leave the hotel, take a moment to look at the small details in the reception area. One thing that really caught my attention were the table lights made from bottles. They are so creative, and just beautiful.
It’s a small design detail, but it adds something special to the atmosphere of the hotel — the kind of little touch you might miss if you walk past too quickly. Something (a very creative idea) you can take home with you, for your own home…
“A special thank you to the friendly team at Aria Life Hotel for making our stay so comfortable and welcoming. Especially Front Desk.”
