Travel Turkiye (Turkey)

Türkiye is one of those places that grabs hold of your heart—and never quite lets go. It’s where ancient ruins meet lively bazaars, and sun-soaked coastlines blend into mountains and fairy-tale landscapes. Every region has a different rhythm. Every dish tells a story.

In this post, we’re taking you on a sensory journey. You’ll explore Türkiye’s magical mix of culture and beauty—and then bring some of that flavor home with traditional Turkish recipes, inspired by the adventure. It’s a delicious blend of two rich heritages, tied together by the joy of travel.

Know Before You Go

Best Time

If you’re wondering when to pack your bags for Türkiye, May to October is your sweet spot. This stretch brings warm days, low humidity, and lots of sunshine—ideal for wandering through ancient ruins, cruising along the coast, or just soaking up those stunning views. Basically, it’s sightseeing weather at its finest!

Check if you need a visa before traveling. Many nationalities can apply for an e-Visa online, which is quick and convenient.

The official currency is the Turkish Lira (TRY). While credit cards are widely accepted, it’s a good idea to carry some cash for smaller shops, markets, or rural areas.

Turkish is the official language, and while English is spoken in tourist areas, learning a few basic Turkish phrases can go a long way in connecting with locals.

Dress modestly, especially when visiting mosques or rural areas. Remove your shoes before entering mosques, and be respectful of local customs and traditions.

Drink bottled water instead of tap water, and consider travel insurance for peace of mind. Be cautious of pickpockets in crowded areas.

Public transport, like buses and trams, is efficient in cities.

Tipping is customary in Turkey. In restaurants, leaving 5-10% of the bill is appreciated, and small tips for hotel staff or taxi drivers are common.

Bargaining is expected in markets and bazaars, so don’t hesitate to negotiate for a better price.

Be prepared to hear the call to prayer five times a day, especially if you’re staying near a mosque. It’s a beautiful cultural experience but can be surprising if you’re not expecting it.

Check official travel advisories for any updates on safety or regional restrictions, especially near border areas.
