Not far from San Remo (the finish of the classic Milan–San Remo cycle race) lies Ospedaletti; snug like a bug in a rug on the Italian Riviera. All of 7.3 km (via Padre Semeria and SS 1), to be exact.

Named after a 14th-century hospital that was established by the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem, this is a gem on the Italian Riviera.

If you want a laid-back holiday, then this is it. The focus here is on nature-related activities such as jogging, walking, hiking, swimming and simply just to chill on the beach.

Best time to go to Ospedaletti

Mid-June to end-August is the peak season with many tourists flogging to this beautiful beach town. If you want to avoid the summer crowds, then rather go from the middle of May to mid-June – just before the schools close for the big school holidays. Or go early Spring, which is September.

As with most Italian beach towns, you’ll have to pay up to spend time on the beach.

Ospedaletti is known for...

…its fine, sandy beaches.

Cycling

  • There is a 24 km track for cycling enthusiasts, and also the longest cycling track along the Mediterranean sea.  Practically on the beach, the cycle track is on the disused railway tracks going to San Lorenzo al Mare. Don’t worry about not having a bike since you can rent one along the track.

Travel-and-Home hotel review

Hotel La Perla Del Capo ***

I choose this hotel because of its amazing view. Furthermore, it is budget-friendly and a super choice for a family holiday. And then to top it all, they have heated pools and a private beach area where the family can relax under umbrellas on comfy sun loungers. Also, when you get hungry there is a snack bar to help out. The staff was awesome and very helpful.
