I really do not have enough words to describe this village.  I’m thinking of ‘stunning, beautiful, fabulous, wonderful, delightful, pretty, awesome….’ and so many more.  But actually, the only way to describe this beautiful place is in photos.

Colmar is located 42 miles (68 km) south-southwest of Strasbourg.  If ever you are near, please do stop here.  It is just simply one of the most beautiful villages in France.  Picture perfect buildings, amazing architecture and the best time to visit would be….well any time.  Because in summer the place is beautiful with pretty flowers everywhere and in winter you have Christmas decorations adorning many buildings.

The old town is beautiful with cobblestone streets lined with fabulous half-timbered medieval and early Renaissance buildings.

The town has fabulous architecture and one of the must-see places is The Musée d’Unterlinden, which houses the 16th-century Isenheim Altarpiece, the masterwork of the German religious painter Matthias Grünewald.

  • The Alsace region is known as a fabulous wine district.  You can go on wine tours and attend wine tastings. Do the popular Routes des Vines and sample the wineries along Alsace.  Taste the regions’ Muscat and Gewürztraminer. 
  • Discover the region on a bike or rent a segway for a few hours.  Just walking through this unique village is an exceptional experience.  Keep your camera ready as you will want to take photos of everything.  Many of the buildings have cute decorations, especially during holidays. 
  • Take the time to stop at a restaurant and just sit and take in the views. While you are there you must try the tarte flambée for which they are famous.
  • Or go on a boat ride and see the village from a different angle.  

Travel the world and explore fabulous places.  Never stop exploring because you might find some fabulous hidden gems.

How to get there

You can fly to one of the closest airports: EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (EAP) which is a 40 min (59,4 km) car ride via the A35, or Strasbourg (SXB)
