Discovering Chianti's Charms: Greve Getaway

Hello there! Are you ready for a little trip to Italy? Today, I’m excited to share with you my recent visit to the charming town of Greve in Chianti, located in the heart of Tuscany.

As soon as I arrived in Greve, I was struck by the beautiful rolling hills covered in vineyards, olive groves, and cypress trees. This town is surrounded by stunning scenery, and it’s easy to see why it’s a popular destination for tourists looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

One of the first things I did in Greve was to explore the town square, Piazza Matteotti. This bustling square is lined with cafes, restaurants, and shops selling local products like wine, olive oil, and truffles. I couldn’t resist stopping at a little cafe for a cappuccino and a pastry while watching the world go by.

Next, I visited the town’s historic church, the Chiesa di Santa Croce. This beautiful church dates back to the 14th century, and it’s filled with beautiful frescoes and paintings. As I walked around the church, I felt a sense of peace and tranquility, and I was reminded of the long history of this town.

After the church, I wandered through the narrow streets and alleys of Greve, admiring the beautiful architecture and soaking up the local atmosphere. I noticed that the town has a lot of small art galleries and artisan workshops, which sell handmade ceramics, jewelry, and textiles.

One of the highlights of my trip to Greve was a visit to a local winery. The winery offered a tour of the vineyards, followed by a tasting of their delicious Chianti wines. The winemaker was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his craft, and I learned a lot about the history and culture of winemaking in this region.

Another must-see attraction in Greve is the Falorni butcher shop. This historic shop has been in business for over 200 years, and it’s famous for its high-quality meats, salamis, and cheeses. I couldn’t resist buying some of their products to take home with me, and I have to say, they were some of the best I’ve ever tasted.

Overall, I had an amazing time exploring Greve in Chianti. The town is full of history, culture, and natural beauty, and there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re a foodie, a wine lover, or just looking for a peaceful getaway, Greve is definitely worth a visit.

A hidden gem... San Martino Ristorante

Just a short drive from Greve in Chianti (via the SR 222) we found a hidden gem, ie. Ristorante San Martino. Completely unexpected between the breathtakingly beautiful views of the countryside, lies this welcome pitstop. We had a lunner (I coined a meal between lunch and dinner, a lunner) which ended up much longer than planned.

Despite having arrived at an awkward time, the staff were warm and friendly, making us  (a group of four) feel at home almost instantly. The service was excellent. We felt like seafood, and that too was excellent. The wine was excellent. All-in-all, we walked out feeling we had a GREAT time! I’m sharing a few photos in the gallery below.
