It's old news, but still valid!

Road safety road trip travel news

As of July 2022, Intelligent speed assistance (ISA) will be introduced across the EU. Read more…

“When hotels say they’re carbon neutral, they usually mean they are taking the same amount of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere as they emit. That is often done through carbon offsets, which account for the hotel’s carbon emissions by removing carbon from the atmosphere. This can be done in several ways, such as planting enough trees to capture the amount of carbon dioxide the hotel emits or financing renewable energy projects or reforestation.”

Before going to Spain – make sure everyone in your group is on the same page! Spread the news.

  • You can no longer reserve a spot on the beach without a towel.
  • And using soap in the ocean is taboo.

If you’re heading to Majorca and Ibiza, you’re in for a few new rules. The Balearic Government introduces some strict rules.

  • Like, all-inclusive holidays in Spain are limited to three drinks at lunch and a further three drinks at dinner.
  • Speaking of dinner… Leave your football shirts and glow-in-the-dark hats in the hotel room. Majorca’s bars and restaurants will not seat you wearing them!
  • Furthermore, shops may sell alcohol only between 08h00 and 21h30.
  • In some areas (like certain spots in Magaluf, El Arenal, and Playa de Palma in Mallorca and Sant Antoni de Portmany in Ibiza), pub crawls, happy hours, and 2-for-1 drinks are forbidden.
Cycling Holiday Travel

Fines for cyclists in England, Scotland and Wales can be as high as £2,500 if they are riding recklessly. Some highlights are:

  • New hierarchy for sharing space with pedestrians, cars, and horse riders:
    • Pedestrians
    • Cyclists
    • Horse riders
    • Motorcyclists
    • Cars
    • Vans and minibuses
    • Large passenger vehicles and heavy good vehicles
  • Clothing: Avoid clothes that can get tangled in the chain or obscure your wheel. Wear a helmet that is securely fastened.
  • Cycle lanes and routes:
    • Cyclists must exercise judgment – it is not compulsory to use cycle lanes.
    • Riding two abreast is permitted in large groups or when riding with a cyclist less confident on a bike. Refer Rule 66.
    • It is not permitted for cyclists to pass between the kerb and a stationary bus.
    • Cyclists may use bus lanes as indicated on signs.
    • Pedestrian lanes, adjacent to cycling lanes, must be avoided. Stick to the cycling lane.
    • Do NOT cycle on pavements. You could face fines of up to £500.
    • As per the Highway Code (free pdf download) cyclists must “take care when passing pedestrians, especially children, older or disabled people, and allow them plenty of room”.
    • Drivers must consider cyclists before turning into junctions. Cyclists take priority.
    • In slow traffic, drivers must allow cyclists (and pedestrians) to pass.
  • At night: Use a steady front lamp (preferably) when riding in areas without streetlights. Alternatively, flashing lights will do.
