Flexible Timeshare Travel: Save Money and Maximize Your Vacation

Timeshare holidays are a smart way to travel affordably—but what if you could make them even smarter? On my recent trip to Funchal, Madeira, I discovered how flexible timeshare travel can unlock better flights, save money, and give you more freedom. Here’s how I did it—and how you can too.

The Problem: Flights That Didn’t Match My Timeshare

I had a confirmed timeshare stay at the Alto Lido Hotel in Funchal, running Wednesday to Wednesday. The accommodation was already paid for, so I wanted flights that matched those dates. But flying from Hungary was a logistical nightmare:

  • No direct flights matched my timeshare dates

  • All options had at least one stopover

  • Flight durations stretched beyond 9 hours

  • Prices were sky-high

As someone who values time and efficiency, long layovers felt like a waste. I don’t even watch TV at home—so sitting around in airports? No thanks.

The Pivot: Embrace Flexible Timeshare Travel

Enter WizzAir—a budget airline with direct flights between Budapest and Funchal. The catch? They only fly on Mondays and Fridays. That didn’t align with my Wednesday-to-Wednesday timeshare booking.

So I got creative.

Instead of sticking rigidly to my original dates, I embraced flexible timeshare travel and adjusted my itinerary:

  • Friday to Wednesday at Alto Lido (timeshare stay)

  • Wednesday and Thursday at Muthu Raga Madeira Hotel (booked via Booking.com)

Both hotels were close to the airport, so no extra transfer costs. And the result?

The Win: Time, Comfort, and €190 Saved

By choosing direct flights and adding two hotel nights, I saved:

  • €190

  • $223 USD

  • ZAR 3,928

That’s real money—and I gained comfort, convenience, and extra time to explore Madeira.

The Takeaway: Flexibility Is Your Best Travel Companion

Timeshare vacations offer great value, but they don’t have to be rigid. With a little flexibility, you can:

  • Unlock cheaper flight options

  • Avoid exhausting layovers

  • Maximize your vacation time

  • Stay within budget

So next time your flight dates don’t match your timeshare, don’t panic—pivot. Flexible timeshare travel is the key to smarter, smoother holidays.
