How far is Franschhoek from Cape Town?

Franschhoek is about 1 hour from Cape Town (80,1 km) via the R45 and N1, and about 50 minutes from Cape Town International Airport  (78,5 km) via the R45 and N1.

Unfortunately there are no bus or train service directly to Franschhoek.  We would definitely recommend renting your own car or alternatively luxury hotels usually offer airport transfers.  Uber Services are available in Cape Town.

Can I explore Franschhoek on foot?

You can easily explore Franschhoek on foot, but for visiting all the beautiful places on the outskirts of town, you might want to have your own car rental.

International airport

Cape Town International Airport (CPT) is the closest to Franschhoek.  From here we would recommend hiring a car with GPS set to “main routes” as this would be your fastest way to get to Franschhoek and enjoy a day of exploring.  (Best route to follow is via the N1 and R45.)
