Zimbabwe will capture your heart!
This beautiful country with its friendly people features in many news bulletins over the years for a variety of controversial subjects. However, there are zero controversies when it comes to its nature and exquisite scenery. My (Jany Adams) first experience was one of amazement over the sheer beauty of what Zimbabwe has on offer. And that includes its warm-hearted people.
No doubt, the country is associated with the majestic Victoria Falls which is the largest waterfall in the world. The Kariba Dam is equally as popular and is legendary for being the largest man-made lake, in terms of volume. at the time of its construction between 1955 and 1959. Besides these spectacular water scenes, Hwanga National Park is known for its amazing wildlife safaris.
April is the best in terms of Victoria Falls. For game viewing, I suggest May to October. Generally, this is the dry season and therefore has a low malaria risk. We went to the end of April/beginning of May and the weather was superb. Some members in our group took Malaria tablets ahead of time, but we did not and were fine. But the choice is completely yours. Don’t be influenced, either way, when it comes to decisions about your health.
I’ll take you on a journey of 14 days, exploring the best of what this stunning destination has to showcase.
Having been there myself, I can confirm that a trip to Zimbabwe will not disappoint. If not already on your travel bucket list, then you should go add it immediately!
If you travel on your own, then yes, you’ll need a car. However, this is a country rich with hidden gems and to ensure you don’t miss out I recommend going on a guided tour. Sit back and relax. It’s worth every penny! It is also the safer option.
If it is only Victoria Falls you’d like to travel to, then “How To Easily Plan A Trip To The Victoria Falls” is for you!

- They serve a rich but super-tasty wild mushroom soup. Named Nhedzi.
- Being in a country that is blessed with a vast range of wildlife, dishes such as crocodile tail, warthog and ostrich are worth trying.
- With your meat, ask for Sadza, a stiff maize meal porridge. It is not porridge as you know it. Trust me, it goes well with the meat and is a traditional meal you should try.
- Speaking of porridge, make sure you try “Bota“. Unlike Sadza, this porridge is eaten at breakfast. It is flavored with peanut butter and will keep your tummy satisfied for quite some time.
- Lastly, on the drinks side, for those who consume alcohol… try the Whawha, which is a traditional maize beer. It’s a must if you want to experience Zimbabwe’s authenticity.
For just over $5,000 (USD) you’ll be able to enjoy the best of Zimbabwe with most of your expenses covered.

How to get to Zimbabwe
If you’re from outside South Africa, you need to fly into Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa. Then, book your flight from Johannesburg to Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe.
When you join a tour, you’re likely to meet up in Harare and again end in Harare. However, if you go solo, you may have to make additional flight bookings. For example, if you want to go to Victoria falls, you need to book a flight to Victoria Falls Airport (VFA). Victoria Falls Airport sits about 18 km (11 m) from Victoria Falls.
