Explore Zimbabwe: A Journey Through Nature and Culture

This beautiful country with its friendly people features in many news bulletins over the years for a variety of controversial subjects. However, there are zero controversies when it comes to its nature and exquisite scenery. My (Jany Adams) first experience was one of amazement over the sheer beauty of what Zimbabwe has on offer. And that includes its warm-hearted people.

Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in southern Africa

How to get to Zimbabwe

If you’re from outside South Africa, you need to fly into Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa. Then, book your flight from Johannesburg to Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe.

When you join a tour, you’re likely to meet up in Harare and again end in Harare. However, if you go solo, you may have to make additional flight bookings. For example, if you want to go to Victoria Falls, you need to book a flight to Victoria Falls Airport (VFA). Victoria Falls Airport sits about 18 km (11 m) from Victoria Falls.

Must Eats & Drinks In Zimbabwe

  • They serve a rich but super-tasty wild mushroom soup. Named Nhedzi
  • Being in a country that is blessed with a vast range of wildlife, dishes such as crocodile tail, warthog and ostrich are worth trying.
  • With your meat, ask for Sadza, a stiff maize meal porridge. It is not porridge as you know it. Trust me, it goes well with the meat and is a traditional meal you should try.
  • Speaking of porridge, make sure you try “Bota“. Unlike Sadza, this porridge is eaten at breakfast. It is flavored with peanut butter and will keep your tummy satisfied for quite some time.
  • Lastly, on the drinks side, for those who consume alcohol… try the Whawha, which is a traditional maize beer. It’s a must if you want to experience Zimbabwe’s authenticity.
