This beautiful country with its friendly people features in many news bulletins over the years for a variety of controversial subjects. However, there are zero controversies when it comes to its nature and exquisite scenery. My (Jany Adams) first experience was one of amazement over the sheer beauty of what Zimbabwe has on offer. And that includes its warm-hearted people.
If you’re from outside South Africa, you need to fly into Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa. Then, book your flight from Johannesburg to Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe.
When you join a tour, you’re likely to meet up in Harare and again end in Harare. However, if you go solo, you may have to make additional flight bookings. For example, if you want to go to Victoria Falls, you need to book a flight to Victoria Falls Airport (VFA). Victoria Falls Airport sits about 18 km (11 m) from Victoria Falls.

No doubt, the country is associated with the majestic Victoria Falls which is the largest waterfall in the world. The Kariba Dam is equally as popular and is legendary for being the largest man-made lake, in terms of volume. at the time of its construction between 1955 and 1959. Besides these spectacular water scenes, Hwanga National Park is known for its amazing wildlife safaris.
April is the best in terms of Victoria Falls. For game viewing, I suggest May to October. Generally, this is the dry season and therefore has a low malaria risk. We went to the end of April/beginning of May and the weather was superb. Some members in our group took Malaria tablets ahead of time, but we did not and were fine. But the choice is completely yours. Don’t be influenced, either way, when it comes to decisions about your health.
I’ll take you on a journey of 14 days, exploring the best of what this stunning destination has to showcase.
If you travel on your own, then yes, you’ll need a car. However, this is a country rich with hidden gems and to ensure you don’t miss out I recommend going on a guided tour. Sit back and relax. It’s worth every penny! It is also the safer option.
If it is only Victoria Falls you’d like to travel to, then “How To Easily Plan A Trip To The Victoria Falls” is for you!
