1. Linz Castle (Schlossmuseum Linz)

2. Mariendom (New Cathedral)

Austria’s largest church is impossible to miss.  (“When writing about the 7 most beautiful places to visit in Linz, I most probably would put this as my nr.1, but it’s a personal preference…”  – Julian)

  • Official name: Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (Mariendom).
  • Built between 1862 and 1924 in neo-Gothic style.
  • It can hold up to 20,000 people, making it bigger inside than St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna (though its tower is slightly shorter).
  • The stained-glass windows are especially beautiful, with one called the “Linz Window” showing scenes from the city’s history.
  • You can climb the 135-meter tower for panoramic views of Linz and the Danube Valley.  Book a tour of the churches and old town.  It’s very interesting.
