Its southern border is made up of 2,798 kilometers (1,739 mi) of Southern African coastline that stretches along the South Atlantic and Indian Oceans.

South Africa’s northern border is made up of the neighboring nations of Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe.

Its eastern and northeastern borders are made up of Mozambique and Eswatini (formerly Swaziland).  Lastly, on the western border you have the enclaved nation of Lesotho.

It is the most populous nation totally south of the equator and the southernmost nation on the Old World continent.

With various distinctive biomes and a wide range of plant and animal life, South Africa is a biodiversity hotspot.
