Lemon and Herb infused roast turkey for Thanksgiving Recipe

Turkey with a Mediterranean Flair: Lemon and Herb-infused Roast Turkey

The centerpiece of any Thanksgiving feast takes on a Mediterranean twist.  Why not make a lemon and herb-infused roast turkey this year?

Drawing inspiration from the sun-soaked shores of the Mediterranean, the turkey can be marinated in a zesty blend of olive oil, garlic, rosemary, and thyme (all mixed according to your preference and taste).

The result is a succulent, golden-brown masterpiece that captures the essence of Mediterranean cuisine, creating a symphony of flavors that dance on the palate.

FUNNY STORY:  “In Italy, under the romantic glow of the Colosseum, I tried impressing my date with a perfect pasta twirl. Instead, the spaghetti launched across the table, earning laughs from nearby diners. Amidst tomato sauce splatters, we shared a messy, laughter-filled Italian feast, turning an awkward moment into a cherished memory.”

Global Stuffing Extravaganza: Chinese Rice Stuffing

Bid farewell to the traditional stuffing and say Nǐ hǎo to a Chinese-inspired twist. Make a rice stuffing, enriched with umami flavors from soy sauce, mirin, and sesame seeds, introduces an element of surprise to the Thanksgiving table.

Basically, you just use sticky rice, crunchy water chestnuts, Chinese sausage, umami shiitake mushrooms, and soy sauce.

  • 1 onion
  • One can whole Chinese water chestnuts (drained and rinsed)
  • 3 or 4 dried Chinese sausages,
  • A teaspoon soy sauce, (or more as needed)
  • Tablespoon of real butter.
  • Begin by gently cooking the diced onion in butter.
  • Add and sauté the shiitake mushrooms and sausage until they reach a savory perfection.
  • Take the sticky rice and lightly sauté it, ensuring an even coating with the luscious ingredients.
  • Introduce the water chestnuts and the soy sauce to enhance the overall flavor.
  • Cover the pot and allow the contents to steam until the rice achieves the desired level of tenderness.

Tip:  I love adding a touch of sesame seed (well, actually a lot) right at the end.

FUNNY STORY:  “In China, I attempted tai chi in a park. My moves resembled a confused chicken, causing locals to cheer. They dubbed me the “Dancing Rooster.” Embracing my newfound fame, I strutted away, feathers unruffled, leaving behind a crowd in stitches and a tale of an unexpected poultry-inspired performance.”

Sweet Potato Moussaka

A Mediterranean Medley: Greek-style Sweet Potato Moussaka

Sweet potatoes, a Thanksgiving staple, undergo a Mediterranean transformation in the form of a Greek-style moussaka. Layers of roasted sweet potatoes, spiced ground lamb, and creamy béchamel sauce create a dish reminiscent of the Aegean breeze. The fusion of flavors pays homage to Greek culinary traditions, turning a familiar ingredient into a show-stopping Thanksgiving delight.

FUNNY STORY:  “In Greece, don’t attempt plate smashing, if your aim is off.  My toss went rogue, colliding with a nearby menu board instead. Luckily everyone was amused by my “creativity” and they joined in with laughter. This is the tale of plate-breaking that took an unexpected turn.”

No Thanksgiving celebration is complete without dessert.

Dessert Delights: Italian Tiramisu Trifle

FUNNY STORY: “Attempting a fancy dish, I mistook powdered sugar for salt. Sweet stir-fry, anyone? Friends took one bite, exchanged glances, and burst into laughter. Lesson learned: always double-check ingredients… unless you have ‘sweet friends’ that will eat anything.”

Just remember, even if you plan a perfect feast, things might not go as expected. But that’s okay! It doesn’t mean the night is ruined; it just creates a new kind of perfect. Embrace the surprises, enjoy the adventure, and laugh together—it’s all part of making great memories.
