So, in total, you’re looking at approximately 80-100 minutes (1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes) from start to finish to make this delightful elma dolması dish. It might vary slightly based on individual cooking speeds and the specific oven used.
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Wash the apples thoroughly. Cut the tops off the apples and keep them aside. Core the apples with a spoon, making a hollow space inside for the stuffing. Be careful not to pierce through the bottom.
In a bowl, mix together the ground meat, washed rice, chopped onion, parsley, nuts, cinnamon, allspice, salt, and pepper.
Stuff each cored apple with the prepared mixture, filling them generously. Place the apple tops back on.
Place the stuffed apples in a baking dish or oven-safe pan. Drizzle olive oil over the apples.
Pour water or beef broth into the pan, around the apples. This will help cook the rice and keep the apples moist.
Cover the pan with foil or a lid and bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes or until the apples are tender and the filling is cooked through.
Once done, remove from the oven. Serve the elma dolması warm, and you can enjoy this flavorful Turkish dish as a main course or a delightful side dish.
