Capri is a bucket list destination when visiting the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

Visit Capri Travel tips and what to do where to stay things to see

A beautiful island in Italy’s Bay of Naples.

This is the place to enjoy your Limoncello at sunset with beautiful views on the sea, or at a pretty restaurant with a view of fabulous atmosphere.

The cobble stone streets are lined with upmarket shops and at Marina Grande you will find the luxury yachts of celebrities all lined up, coming to enjoy this beautiful island.   So let’s go and be part of the fun!

Is Capri Italy worth a visit?

Without a doubt Capri would be more than worth a visit, especially if you stay for a night or two.

You can easily reach the island by ferry from Naples and Sorrento for a day trip.  There is also a boat from Positano, but you’ll have to check and book in advance to ensure a stress-free experience, as the boats sometimes (weather depending) does not operate exactly on schedule.

This dream holiday destination is something you need to enjoy – relishing each moment.

When reaching Capri, after having something to eat and strolling through the shops, take the funicular up to the top and center of Capri.  There is a funicular every 5 or 10 minutes, you can buy your tickets getting there, and it is not expensive.  Especially if you take into account the amazing views you have along the way.

Reaching the top, you’ll again have the opportunity to stop for something to drink at the Piazzetta di Capri (the most famous plaza and a very popular place to spend some time).

When is the best time to visit Capri Italy?

If you ask the locals they would recommend April to June and again September and October.  Summer is the time when the Pizzetta in the center of town is filled with tourists and celebrities coming in with boats, ferries and luxury yachts.

In my opinion spring (May) is a good time to visit Capri as the weather is not yet so hot and there are less rainy days.

Discover the island, by walking down the streets and alleys, exploring all the beautiful scenery and lovely nature scenes and gardens everywhere.

Another stop that is really beautiful, is the botanical garden: Giardini di Augusto (originally known as the Krupp gardens).  It is small but beautiful, with views of the Via Krupp, as well as beautiful views of the faraglioni (a rock formation in the ocean, eroded by waves).

Visit this portal to purchase tickets for access to the municipal sites Villa Lysis and Giardini di Augusto.

After a significant maintenance effort on the rock-carved pathway that stretches for over a kilometer from the Gardens of Augustus to Marina Piccola, weaving through pine trees and Mediterranean vegetation, Via Krupp on Capri has finally reopened to the public. This comes after a nine-year closure.

Coming in from the Marina Grande (the port which you’ll reach by boat), you can take the funicular, the bus or the train to reach the town of Capri and then you can travel again by bus to Anacapri.  A beautiful little town to walk through with very pretty shops.

  • Also make a stop at the museum: Museo Casa Rossa di Anacapri.  (You might just walk past it without noticing, but it is beautiful inside.)
  • The Church of  San Michele Arcangelo is a Roman catholic church located in Anacapri, on Piazza San Nicola and built in 1719.  The floor in this church is spectacular to say the least.

If you’re uncertain of where some places are on the island of Capri, just ask your host or hotel reception.  People are very friendly and will help you with a smile.

Villa San Michelle Gardens in Anacapri

Visit:  Villa San Michelle host live entertainment evenings.  There is a museum with a shop and the most beautiful gardens you can explore.  Even on misty days it is spectacular.  Definitely worth a visit.

My number one recommendation of things to do

I know there are people saying that this is not what they expected and that it is only a touristy place, BUT I still recommend a visit.  It is beautiful. And where else would you find a restaurant under lemon trees…  go at night after sunset... that is when you’ll see the lights and lemons that create the unique atmosphere.

Da Paulino Restaurant is a huge dream-like restaurant under the famous Amalfi Coast lemon trees.   Including, good food, great service, fantastic atmosphere, and an  amazing venue: What more can I say?  Oh yes – the sing-along evening was so much fun.  (Start learning the words to the song “That’s Amore” and book your tickets.)  If you’re going with a party of friends even better.

Although there are many day-trips to the island of Capri, we would definitely recommend staying overnight.

You’ll find beautiful hotels, villas, apartments and B&B’s all featuring stunning views of some sort.

A hidden gem on the island of Capri

Monte Solaro is a mountain on the island with an elevation of 589 m.  Its peak is the highest point of Capri and it contains the “Fortino di Bruto”, a blockhouse which was used in battles between Britain and France in the early 19th century.

Take a scenic ride on the Monte Solaro chairlift and enjoy stunning panoramic views.  The Monte Solaro chairlift is a popular attraction on the island for those that know of its existence.  (Some tourists miss the opportunity because they did not know.)  The chairlift takes you from the town of Anacapri to the top of Monte Solaro.  The ride is only about 10 to 12 minutes and you’ll have stunning views of the coastline and the Faraglioni rock formations.
